Lovely Words
“I never got a chance to write in the visitors book; but I would have written about the magic and peace of Cuckoo Inlet, sitting out at night seeing more stars than I thought possible, hearing the hunting owl, and the belling stag… finding his hoofprints in the morning, and being entranced by the everchanging view, as the tide so gently rose and fell and the interplay of light and cloud; truely a place to find peace and soul….
I will have to come back sometime when Jhn is better, (but selfishly, without guests in tow so we can just sit and ‘be’).
So thanks again.”

Patterns in the sand
I’m pretty sure black sand beaches are volcanic in origin. Hot lava flows into the sea and turns black upon contact with the cooling effect of the water. As it cools it breaks up into smaller fragments. The constant pounding of the surf and waves over time causes these fragments to form smaller and smaller particles, until sand is produced. Around 60 million years ago, the region was volcanically active, with Ben More being the remnant of a volcano, and it was in this period that the famous rock formations of Staffa and the basaltic columns of “The Castles” on Ulva came into being. So there you go!

Cute Calves!
Completely in love with the calves too - trying to convince the farmer to let me name one, but strangely he’s sticking with his numerical approach!

Little lambs!
I’m in love with all the little lambs around - unsurprisingly the mama sheep are very protective of their young so it makes it hard to get close enough to get a pic!

Al Lewis and Paper Aeroplanes
An Tobar has a ton of exhibitions and gigs going on. Two amazing recent events were
the dreamy sounding Al Lewis and and Sarah from the Paper Aeroplanes who are possibly my favourite band.
The accompanying exhibition was by Emma Herman-Smith. Emma spent a year as artist in residence at An Tobar - she created these beautiful ceramic bricks with impressions of wild flowers. I was so taken by them that I bought a tiny one!

I had a fabulous time here, it is very quiet and peaceful. The scenery is outstanding and I love the fact that we can walk by the seashore in about two minutes as it is right by us. Had a great time and look forward to returning.

Cuckoo
A really great space, which gobbled up us, our children and our gear. Fantastic acces to the loch; out daily in canoes, with sightings of otters and of course the seal colony. The best time for boating is sunset – perfect. The children loved seeing the seals. The solitude, lack of email and mobile access make it a real ‘switch off’ holiday.

I think you have a great house and the sea was great. I hope we come back again. The Isle of Mull was really cool.

My favourite bit of the holiday is when I went to the beach and flew my kite. And had a paddle in the sea.

Fabulous relaxing accommodation in beautiful tidal setting. Loved the wildlife. Weather was excellent. A lovely holiday in prospect, at the time and now in retrospect.

Woodside
Wonderful stay at Woodside, beautiful surroundings and worth a walk up to the standing stone on the estate. Whilst we were there we had an evening meal at the Bellachroy Hotel and can recommend the food, good quality well cooked and great atmosphere. Restaurant was busy so recommend booking if you want a table in the restaurant. We ate in the bar which was fine. Can recommend visit to Calgary bay and boat trip to Staffa’s wait. Can’t wait to return to Mull and would recommend the cottage to anyone.
Wendy.
